Humility? Yes, please...

Well, I leave for the Philippines on June 8 to work as a media person for the 2010 Nehemiah Teams. People have been asking me how I'm preparing for my trip, and until this past weekend I haven't really had an answer. Now, if I had to sum up my preparation in one word, I would simply say, "humility." Yes, I've studied some about the Philippines, read about culture shock, and how to have a missional worldview. But as I've prayed, the word "humility" kept flashing across mind like a construction sign over the interstate to warn that there's a blasting zone up ahead. Last Sunday morning I entered the blasting zone. Now, ironically, I feel more prepared than I ever dreamed. All of the material I read and conversations I had were certainly beneficial, but I learned that a little humility goes a long way. Sorry if all of this humility talk is somewhat ambiguous. Just imagine jumping off of the pedestal you put yourself on, and getting your face level with the gravel long enough to confess, "Yeah, I'm a sinner too..."
